Summary: The staff of “The Pitts News” analyzes the issue of abortion linking to immigration. They start by saying, “if abortion is to blame for illegal immigration then Santa Claus is guilty for causing cancer” (staff, paragraph 1). The authors of this address the issue by showing both sides. The
Missouri state House Special Committee on Immigration Reform produced a report saying “lack” of usual work habit with “30 years” of abortion effects, and “expanding liberal social welfare policies” have caused lack of workers (staff, paragraph 4). The staff shows their opinion on the issue of part of the request of employing illegal immigrants is their willingness to work for low wages and longer hours without health care benefits unlike American citizens. People who hire illegal aliens aren’t forced to do so.
Commentary: I agree with the authors of this. They use good points to demonstrate both sides, but abortion causing immigration doesn’t seem very reasonable to me. The authors don’t compare the abortion rate to illegal immigration which could help maintain their position. We could slow down illegal immigration by enhanced border security systems and worker verification systems. We need to look at the more sensible reasons for this.
Analysis: I trust the staff of this article because they are the staff of a good commendable source that’s trustworthy. Their responses come for committees of immigration and from some representatives. They use logos, which is appeal to logic, to support their view.

Summary: Rita Rubin, a journalist for “U.S. News and World Reports” analyzes both sides of the controversy of abortion increasing the risk of breast cancer. She speaks of Joel Brind who seeks to report this issue. Brind and co-authors Veron Chinchilli, Walter Severs, and Joan Summy-Long found twenty three studies around the world that examined the links between the two. He also concluded that abortion increases breast cancer by 30%. Rubin shows the other side with National Cancer Institute and National Cancer Coalition disagreeing. Louise Brinton from there says,”research have been too contradictory and too weak to permit conclusion”(Rubin par 5).
Commentary: This article increases my opinion for being against abortion. Women who choose abortion suffer more with breast cancer. I don’t understand how you could go through with it and know you have a risk at getting breast cancer. Do abortion right leaders see this risk and consider it? Rubin doesn’t use this idea to show their side on this view.
Analysis: I trust Rita Rubin because she works for a good creditable source that is trustworty and reliable. Her responses come from National Cancer Institute and from Brind. Brind says,”there’s no way I would stake my reputation on information that I’m not sure about”(Rubin par 7). Rubin uses ethos to show in my opinion the wrong side of this. She also uses pathos to show emotion in raising a topic that’s not considerably true says NCI.

Summary: John Leo, a journalist for U.S News and World Report speaks the troubles and questionable morality of a particular procedure of abortion called “partial birth.” He begins by telling the procedure of this. This is performed at 20-24 weeks. The whole body of the fetus just till the head is out of the mother, then the skull is pierced. He also has evidence of Dr. Haskell at Ohio Abortion Clinic says, “two-thirds of procedures occur while fetus is alive.” Representative Jim Moran of Virginia said, “I won’t vote in a way to put my conscience on a shelf” when voting to ban partial birth procedures. Leo shows how people on both side are troubled by this.
Commentary: I believe that the fetus alive and a few inches away from the world is brutality wrong. I believe abortion should be illegal and even the “partial birth” procedure should definitely not be allowed. People for abortion rights are even bothered by the questionable morality of this particular procedure.
Analysis: As mentioned before, John Leo is a writer for U.S News and World Report, which helps establish his ethos, or moral character. Including the evidence he has from Dr. Haskell to be true from a tape recording is an example of logos. He uses pathos by just telling the awful procedures of this even arousing emotions from abortion-rights leaders.
